The Internet of Sounds Research Network is a non-profit network that aims to promote research related to the Internet of Sounds field by bringing together researchers from universities, industry, research centers, art centers, associations and institutions. The Internet of Sounds (IoS) is an emerging research field positioned at the intersection of the Internet of Things and Sound and Music Computing domains. The IoS Research Network is a highly interdisciplinary and diverse community that encompasses experts in the technological, artistic, business, ethical, regulatory and policy domains.

The IoS Research Network was established in 2022 as a venue for gathering the community of IoS practitioners working in academia, industry and the artistic world, to facilitate networking between members, to foster discussions about the evolutions of the IoS field, as well as to disseminate resources such as research articles, tutorials, webinars, code repositories and news.

Objectives

More formally, the main objectives of the IoS Research Network are:

  • To stimulate the exchange of ideas and resources between the members whose activities originate from a common interest in technological and/or non-technological topics at the confluence of Internet of Things and Sound and Music Computing;
  • To foster research, development, and teaching in all areas of the IoS;
  • To encourage reproducible research, including release of datasets, source code, and experiment designs and methodologies;
  • To encourage open-access publication and distribution of theoretical, empirical, and applied studies;
  • To support and encourage diversity in membership and the disciplines involved as a fundamental aspect of the research network.

Annual gathering of the community

The IoS Research Network contributes to the organization of the International Symposium on the Internet of Sounds (IS2), which continues the successful track of the past editions. The aim of the symposium is to bring together IoS practitioners to investigate and advance the development of IoS technologies and methodologies. The event consists of oral and poster presentations, keynotes, demos, and tutorials.

In March 2023 the IEEE, based on a proposal of the Internet of Sounds Research Network, has launched the IEEE Emerging Technology Initiative on the Internet of Sounds.
